Why Study Antiquities?
Out of all the possible majors to choose from at Missouri State University, why should you consider Antiquities?
In most cases, students decide on an Antiquities major after they have discovered the fascinating study of ancient peoples and their cultures. If you are interested in the ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Hebrew, Greek, Roman, and/or Native American civilizations, the Antiquities major has something great to offer you. Because the Antiquities Program faculty comes from four different departments (Anthropology, Classical Languages, History, Religious Studies), it offers a uniquely broad range of disciplinary approaches to the study of ancient cultures. Moreover, our Antiquities major offers four different tracks of study: Classical, Near Eastern, Native American Studies, and New World Historical Archaeology.
In addition, the various disciplines making up our Antiquities major stand at the core of a strong liberal arts education. Antiquities majors rank among the highest scorers among all undergraduate majors on the GRE and LSAT exams. Historically, our Antiquities majors have an enviable record for successful applications to law schools, graduate schools, and other postgraduate programs. But even if you choose not to go farther than a bachelor's degree, you should know that our Antiquities majors develop skills highly sought by employers in today's competitive job market: -how to acquire knowledge critically, analyze information rigorously , and communicate one's findings effectively.
You will also discover that our Antiquities Program a small, welcoming academic community on an ever-growing Missouri State University campus. Class sizes in most Antiquities Program courses are comparatively small, making it possible to get to know both your fellow students and your professors. The faculty members who make up the Antiquities Program are devoted teachers and accomplished scholars focused first and foremost upon helping our students succeed - both during their time with us at Missouri State and in what they do with their lives afterward.
If you want to know more about the Antiquities Program and how it can meet your needs, just ask any Antiquities Program faculty member, or contact the Antiquities Program Coordinator, Dr. Joseph Hughes.
